Morretes & Antonina Transportation Guide
By Air
It's an hour's journey by air from Sao Paulo and one and half hour's from Rio de Janiero to Afonso Pena International Airport in Curitiba, the busiest airport in the state of Paraná. Located in the city of São José dos Pinhais, 14 km from Curitiba city centre, the airport offers many services such as restaurants, coffee shops, banks, mail, magazine stores, fast sleep centre and a handicrafts shop.
Among the options to go from the airport to Curitiba city centre, there are regular buses, taxis, shuttles and the executive microbuses which costs R$8,00 per person and goes through some of the most important points in downtown. You can then hire a car or take a bus or train to Morretes and Antonina from there.
By Bus
Buses generally take 8 hours from Sao Paulo to Curitiba and 13 hours from Rio. Antonina is 90 minutes away from Curitiba and a regular bus service is available, leaving from the main bus station in Curitiba.
If you are flexible, a good alternative is to take the bus over Estrada da Graciosa (once a day).
By Train
There is no better way to travel to Morretes from Curitiba than by the Serra Verde Express. Journey through the magnificent mountain ranges of the Serra do Mar, the breathtaking Atlantic rainforests and the picturesque colonial town of Morretes and the port city of Paranaguá. Soak in the panoramic view along this amazing route which winds its way down through the mountains to sea level. This train, running on a 19th century railway network, covers a total distance of 70 km in about 3 hours, crossing 30 bridges, 13 tunnels and several viaducts. Arrive in Morretes by lunchtime and carry on to Antonina, just a short distance away, by bus or car.
By Road (Estrada da Graciosa - scenic road)
Take the BR 116 from Curitiba to Sao Paulo for a distance of 31 km to the PR 410 turn off. The entry portal here was built recently to commemorate the Jesuits. The old Graciosa Road, which is 6 km away, is almost as spectacular as the railway. Only cars, vans and a daily bus can traffic here due to the tight curves. A good alternative is to book a tour with the train to Morretes and back by car or van through this road.
